Brantome
- A Troglodytic Tour ?from digging to construction? The name for this tour has been well chosen since it shows how monks used to live inside the caves of the cliff (?le creuse?) as well as in the different buildings (?le construit?) which they established later on. The heating room, washing place and abbey mill or the Troglodytic pigeon hole are some examples.

- The Old Abbey
Since its foundation by Charlemagne in 769, Brantome Abbey has been permanently refurbished throughout the years. Various abbots succeeded each other and each one added a new element to the abbey. The remains which can be seen today are from the 18C. The abbey church, quite sober on the whole, lets us see a gallery near the main portal, which is all the remains of the cloister. The Town Hall and the Fernand-Desmoulin Museum now occupy the monastic buildings.

- The banks of the Dronne
A paradise of flowers and freshness. The flower-filled balconies and climbing vines of the old houses are reflected in the waters of the river. Near the abbey, the gardens bordering the river exhale harmony and serenity

- Dream and Miniatures Museum ( An enchanting little world. Accessible to people of restricted mobilityWhat can be more marvellous than to create a museum where one feels like a giant? Here you will see sectioned houses, decorated inside with meticulously made furniture and objects reduced to 1/12th of their size. An exciting and interesting visit, for both old and young.

- Grottes de Villars Enchanting discovery of geological formations and prehistoric paintings. Of the 13km that have been explored since the cave was discovered in 1953, only 600m are open to visitors who can walk along galleries linking chambers dug by an underground river and decorated with amazing and varied concretions: draperies up to 6m. long, rimstone pools and columns. Some white stalactites, composed of almost pure calcite, are remarkably bright. Also noteworthy are the prehistoric paintings, believed to date, like the Lascaux paintings, from the early Magdalenian period (around 17000 BC). A video presentation explains the geological phenomena.

Musee du Perigord - Perigueux
One of the most important archaeological museums in France. Situated on the Allees de Tourny in the place of the former Augustine convent, this is one of the most important museums of prehistory in France. Its treasures include the Skeleton of Chancelade, which is 15,000 years old, the golden funerary diadem from the 3rd C and a perfectly preserved wooden water pump. There is also a taurobolic altar for animal sacrifices and a floor mosaic from a 4C villa. In the octagonal room, there is a diptych by Rabastens.

Getting There:
