Local Attractions:

It is a ground of colors, but also of perfumes, with GRASSE, which is the world capital since XVIII. It is a ground of charm, poetry and nonchalance, place of meeting of artists and craftsmen, with its picturesque villages at the flowered placettes, streets in staircases, fountains and houses with arcades. It is a quiet ground, place privileged for the rest and calms it, in shift. Here, between floral cultures and olive-trees, one surprises oneself to forget that it can make gray elsewhere and one already thinks of returning there, still and still! It is a ground of space, with the sea very close and to the multiple activities, preserving despite everything the so characteristic spirit of Provence.
8 golfs 30 min. away, tennis 500 m. All the Cote d'Azur museums within 1 hour.
GRASSE
Perfume Factories: Fragonard, Galimard, Molinard... perfume all the way. Apart from a tour, visitors can take lessons in creating a perfume.
Place du Cours: A pleasant terraced promenade. This pleasant terraced promenade offers a charming view of the cultivated fields and woods of the countryside sloping gently towards the sea. The fountain dates form the Revolution.
Navy Museum Grasse needed to export its perfume and, rather than entrust others with their precious cargoes, the Grasse perfume manufacturers set themselves up as shipowners in Marseille or Nice. Hence this maritime tradition in a region that was home to a number of great seamen, such as the Admiral de Grasse, the hero of the American War of Independence..
International Perfume Museum: Guerlain, Patou, Lanvin, Chanel... Thirty centuries of perfume. The manufacture of bottles and phials (do not miss the Schiaparelli bottles), Marie-Antoinette's travelling case, the plants used in perfumery, presented in a greenhouse, the laboratories where the "noses" of Grasse work for the well-known names of the perfume industry, everything about perfume and its use over the ages. An interactive screen shows commercials and other advertising for perfumes and there is a terrace at the top where visitors can have a cool drink.
Fragonard Villa-Museum: In the Bastide Maubert, French painting from 1750 to 1850. In memory of three generations of Fragonards; Jean-Honore, the father, his sister-in-law, Marguertite Gerard, his son Alexandre-Evariste, and grandson, Theophile. The veritable painter of the family was undoubtedly Jean-Honore Fragonard (1732-1806); you can see a copy of his delicate The Progess of Love, the original, rejected by the Duchess du Barry, is in New York.
Museum of Provencal costumes and Jewellery An annexe to the Fragonard perfume factory. The delicate shimmering universe of ladies' costumes in the 18C. Various types of Provencal crosses, the clothes of peasants, craftworkers or householders - and a shop that lady visitors will find hard to resist.
Museum of Art and History of Provence: Provence in the residence of a great local family. Mirabeau's brother-in-law belonged to the Clapier-Cabris family. The museum has joyfully eclectic exhibits including family portraits of local nobility, reconstructions of rooms in Provencal dwellings, old furniture, local archeology, costumes and the production of olive oil.
N.-D.-du-Puy Cathedral: A strange mixture of medieval Provencal and Lombardy style, intermingled with Rococo. The building dates back to the late 10C but was restored and modified in the 17C. The organ was made by a Toulouse organ builder, Junk, the triptych is attributed to Louis Brea, the religious paintings are by Fragonard (although not his particular field!) and there are three paintings by Rubens.
Princess Pauline Garden: When Pauline Bonaparte sulked... Who knows why she had a disagreement with her brother Napoleon on that particular occasion. However, still sulking, Pauline decided to spend the winter of 1807-1808 in Grasse. She is said to have been particularly fond of a coppice of oak trees which has since become a vast decorative garden, with a wide view over the Esterel.
Galimard Perfume Factory: How about creating your own perfume? If you take a lesson in creating your own perfume? when you visit the factory, you may well discover that you are a "nose".
Chateau de Gourdon (This lofty castle guards within its walls a wealth of artwork from throughout the ages. The castle, built in the 12C and restored in the 17C, has a variety of architectural influences: Saracen, 14C Tuscan and Renaissance. It also houses two museums. The Musee historique (historical museum) exhibits medieval works of art, a collection of ancient weapons and two major paintings: a 1500 panel (Saint Ursule) and a Saint Sebastien du Greco in polychrome wood. The Musee des Arts Decoratifs et de la Modernite (decorative arts and modernity) boasts collections of furniture from 1920-1930. Take a look at the terrasse d'honneur by Le Notre.
Port de Cannes: Between ther palace and the Suquet the epicentre of Cannes' life. Fishing vessels land their sea bass and their red mullet, harbour craft of the maritime station which has a band of glazed lava decorating it, yachts awaiting hire... the port remains the epicentre of Cannes life.
