Local Attractions:
This traditional district holds some typically Parisian delights: picturesque markets, restaurants, wine bars, sunny terraces, attractive shops...
Enjoy a walk in the district of Montparnasse which offers some good quality restaurants. Two cafes are the symbol of Montparnasse of the Roaring Twenties: the Dome and the Coupole. These cafes were used as the meeting place for cosmopolitan bohemians of the period, such as the author, Apollinaire, the painters, Gauguin, Matisse and "Rousseau the customs officer", or the singer, Kiki of Montparnasse. The first City of the Arts, "La Ruche", is well worth a visit.
Enjoy a visit to the Montparnasse Tower, the highest building in Paris. This district lies on the edge of the Luxembourg Gardens and stretches along the borders of Saint Germain des Pres.
It has always been a district with a special charm, the mystery of which has never ceased to amaze and inspire many artists. It has been home to the literary world since the 17th century: cafe life flourished in the district, with the creation of prestigious establishments such as Les Deux Magots or Cafe de Flore, much loved by Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir.
The Eiffel Tower, the mythical symbol of Paris, is on your doorstep. It was built in 1889 by Gustave Eiffel for the Universal Exhibition, of which it was the main star. From the top of its 35 metres, it watches over Paris and the shores of the Seine. You may take the elevator to enjoy one of the most beautiful views of Paris from its summit.
The Champs de Mars is surrounded by many monuments, such as the Military School, which played host to the young Napoleon Bonaparte in 1784. It is decorated with many statues and sculptures and has a small pond with water jets and a bandstand. The famous Trocadero square is surrounded by several museums, including the Guimet Oriental museum and the "not-to-be-missed" National Theatre of Chaillot.
Visit the Dome of the Invalides, which shelters Napoleon's ashes brought there in 1840. In the surrounding area, do not miss the Rodin Museum in Rue de Varennes. It is an ancient townhouse which used to be the workshop of the artist Auguste Rodin. You can admire many of the Master's sculptures there, as well as those of his pupil and mistress, Camille Claudel.
