In the heart of the beautiful countryside of the Charente departement, as you travel along a side road, the magnificent and haughty, Chateau de Nieuil comes into view.
Beautiful Renaissance facades, fat round towers surrounding the main building, a water-filled moat, a formal garden, after just that first glance you will want to stay the night, for a weekend, or for even longer ! Francois I had the right idea the Chateau de Nieuil was one of his favourite hunting residences.

The castle was turned into a hotel in 1937 by the grandparents of the present owners and it has retained the unique charm of a stately home, enhanced by owners who love the place with a passion.
The grand entrance hall gives access to comfortable, welcoming lounges and airy, beautifully decorated public rooms, while the majestic sculpted stone staircase leads to the hotel's eleven bedrooms and three suites. Each is unique, given its character by furnishings in differing styles, ranging from Louis XIII to the 1930's, all chosen with care.
The hotel is decorated with a subtle, harmonious combination of old and contemporary items and works of art; all the rooms are spacious, and the colours gently shaded. In case you are still not convinced, the windows in all the bedrooms look out over the garden, the park and natural surroundings.
All our bedrooms are air-conditioned, with bathroom and toilet, minibar, satellite TV and a safe.
Everything combines to make your stay a very special moment in a particularly attractive place.
You will be enchanted bewitched by the soft birdsong, you will not be surprised to see nesting boxes in the trees.
In keeping with the hospitality we offer, the park surrounding the Chateau de Nieuil is a bird sanctuary run by the LPO (the French league for the protection of birds), and many birds have taken up residence.
You will be able to discover them on the "bird walk" around the moat and the castle, punctuated with poems.
Some visitors will prefer to stroll along the tree-lined paths, making the most of an opportunity to do nothing, or to visit the art and antiques gallery, containing furniture, 1930's objets d'art and a wonderful collection of old posters. Gourmets will not want to miss the "La Grange aux Oies" restaurant in the former stables, opposite the castle. The restaurant is a member of the Association of Gourmet Tables of the Poitou-Charentes departement.
