- Pontaillac coastal road.
Coastal road giving you a bird's eyes view of the little conches and views of the Gironde estuary. After the old fort of Chay you overlook several small conches (of Chay and Pignonnier) with several places to view the Gironde estuary and the Beautiful Coast from, ending at the Conche de Pontaillac the beach that is the most in view in Royan. Above you rich-looking villas are dispersed underneath the foliage. This is one of the best walks to go on and is well worth going on at high tide.

- Gardens of the World
- Floral theme park in the heart of Royan: nature at its best. The reception area, a striking modern metal structure, leads into the orchid glasshouse, where a tropical forest has been recreated with some of the world's most beautiful varieties, and then into the bonsai pavilion. The tour continues up in the air, where you will be able to enjoy the serenity of a Japanese garden before proceeding to the swampy undergrowth of Louisiana or a maze of bamboo. Small electric craft take you through the canals of the Pousseau marshes and into the labyrinth of mists - quite breathtaking.

- Zoo de La Palmyre
Big cats, bears, elephants, birds and reptiles have found refuge in La Palmyre Forest. Accessible to people of restricted mobility This 33-acre zoo is set in the magnificent forests and dunes of La Palmyre. A marked trail, dotted with lakes and ponds, takes visitors past some 1 600 animals from every corner of the globe. Carnivores live next to small pandas and suricates. Parrots and other birds of multicoloured plumage lead the way to hoofed animals and mastodons. The polar-bear pond is most impressive as is the reptile vivarium. Fascinating variety of monkeys.

- Cordouan Lighthouse - Le Verdon-sur-Mer
A Renaissance lighthouse keeps watch over the Gironde estuary. In the 14C, the Black Prince had an octagonal tower built on the promontory 7km from the coast. It was rebuilt in the 16C by Louis de Foix in a Renaissance style, and remodelled in 1788 by the engineer Teulere, who added the present upper section. This 66m-high edifice, complete with monumental doorway, is open to the public. 301 steps lead up to the modern lantern, stopping at the Renaissance floors comprising the King's Apartment on the first floor and a chapel on the second floor.

- St Trojan Beaches
Four fine sandy beaches... and gentle water thanks to the Gulf-Stream factor. Depending on your preferences and what happens to take your fancy, you might want to head for the Grande Plage (3km to the west) which stretches out as far as the eye can see, the Pointe de Manson (2.5km to the South) which gives you views of the viaduct and the mainland, the plage de Gatseau, ideal for swimming and the Pointe de Gatseau, at the end of the Grand Plage and which you gain access to via the little tourist train departing from Saint-Trojan.

- Ramparts - Brouage
The ramparts rising above the marshes are a magnificent sight. Built between 1630 and 1640, the ramparts are a perfect example of the art of fortification before the Vauban era. They describe an exact square measuring 400m x 400m and are protected by seven bastions, each equipped with turrets. The northern rampart faced onto the sea, overlooking the haven which is now little more than a channel. A sentry path leads almost entirely around the old ramparts, now covered in grass. The layout of the town below can be clearly seen, and there is a good view across the marshes and the islands of Aix and Oleron.

- St Trojan Forest
A vast forest of pines covering dunes which can reach heights of 36 m. Some green oaks and brooms combat the hegemony of the sea pines in this 2000 ha forest, which is excellent for walks and bike rides.

- Port des Salines - Le Grand-Village-Plage
Discover the old salt marshes on specially signposted paths. Brightly coloured oyster-farm huts have exhibitions on the island's traditional activities: the history of salt in Saintonge, the ecluses a poisson (fish retention locks) and oyster farming. A salt works has been conserved around a cabane a Sau (salt hut). Products connected with salt on sale. Finally, a trip on a small boat to discover the flora and fauna of the marshes.
