AVIGNON, A CENTRE OF CULTURE
-The Pope's palace
This fortress built in 1334 has seen the influence of seven popes and two anti-popes on Christendom during the Schism. The Pope's palace is nowadays the most important Gothic Palace in the world listed UNESCO world heritage.

- Saint-Benezet Bridge
'The Bridge of Avignon', famous with its song, got its name because of Benezet sheperd's legend. Built during the 12th century, Saint Nicolas Chapel has been leant against it in honour of sailors patron saint. It is nowadays one of the most prestigious building in France listed UNESCO world heritage.

- Rock of the Doms, know for its magnificient gardens, offers a nice view on the Rhone river and the Saint-Benezet Bridge Villeneuve-les-Avignon with the Philippe le Bel Tower and the Fort St Andre, the 'Dentelles of Montmirail', the Ventoux... You will enjoy the Notre Dame des Doms Cathedral, Roman church from the 12th Century, where the Popes celebrated (it provides 2 beautiful caves of 2 Popes), The Walls of which the actual surrounding was erected by the Popes during the 14th Century. 5 kilometres long, it is opened with 7 doors on which several breaks were added during the 19th Century.

- Saint-Didier Church, typical of the Provencal Gothic Style, built during the 14th Century.

- The Synagogne, rebuilt during the 19th Century, neoclassical style.

- The Opera, built during the 19th Century and decorated with Moliere and Corneille Statues.

- Petit Palais museum, which walls are decorated with an impressive collection of paintings of Italian primitives from Middle-age to the Renaissance.

- Calvet museum, fitted out in a nice 18th century private hotel, combines richness of prehistoric, Egyptian, Greek and Roman objects as well as paintings, sculptures, art and ironworks items.

- Lapidairy museum, where Antic Archeology is presented in a very fine 17th century baroque Chapel.

- Angladon museum, ancient mansion, gathers together the greastest 18th, 19th and 20th century masterpieces.

- Requien museum, Natural History museum, regional geology.

- Louis-Vouland museum, houses a 17th and 18th Century decorative art collection.

- Mont-de-Piete museum, houses objects and documents relative to the Mont-de-Piete (the oldest of France) and to the silks conditions.

- Roure palace museum, of popular art and traditions.
