Local Attractions:

- Chateau d'Arginy - Charentay
A chateau steeped in legend and mystery. The mystery surrounding this castle will attract you to it. According to legend and Count Guichard of Beaujeu's tale, the Templars' treasure is buried here. It is in a dilapidated state and retains the big, red-brick Eight Beatitudes Tower, built in the Knight Templar era.

- Chateau - Corcelles-en-Beaujolais
A handsome fort from the end of the Middle Ages. Accessible to people of restricted mobility. This 15C fortified castle was built in order to defend the border between Burgundy and the Beaujolais region. The Madeleine-Ragny family coat of arms is set above the main dungeon entrance. The interior courtyard has pretty Renaissance galleries. And, to remind you that you really are in the Beaujolais region, the castle is located in the middle of a vineyard and retains an exceptional 17C fermenting cellar.

- "Le Hameau du Vin" - SA Duboeuf - Romaneche-Thorins
An interesting presentation of the techniques of wine production. This museum, housed in an old railway station, traces the universe of winegrowing and, in particular, Beaujolais wine. Wine lovers will be delighted at this exhibition.

- Guillon Craftsmen's Museum - Romaneche-Thorins
A homage to craft corporation members. In this workshop in the late 19C, Pierre-Francois Guillon ran a school of technical drawing (linear drawing and wood cutting patterns) for members of the craftsmen's corporations.

- Benoit Raclet House - Romaneche-Thorins
The residence of a man much respected by winegrowers. The inventor of the lime-washing technique used on vines until 1945, Benoit Raclet was considered a saviour by winegrowers who regularly saw their vineyards devastated by caterpillars. There are a number of exhibits relating to this important discovery.

- Les Sources du Beaujolais - Beaujeu
A museum to delight wine enthusiasts. Accessible to people of restricted mobility. Here, local wine enthusiasts will be satisfied. The museum invites you to follow the history of the local vineyard. Also, scale models with sound tracks and a projection room enable you to relive tha atmosphere of rural life. You can also see a life-size barge, whose location in this building can be surprising.

- Marius Audin Folklore Museum - Beaujeu
An interesting collection devoted to the daily life of bygone days. This museum was created on the initiative of the printer Marius Audin (1872-1951). It attempts to retrace former everyday life in the region's villages. Highlights are a classroom, a 19C farmhouse interior, and, especially, a collection of fashion dolls. In the basement, a wine-tasting cellar will enable you to sample Beaujolais-Villages.

- Regional Prehistory Museum - Solutre-Pouilly
All about the first men of the Saone-et-Loire region. The museum covers the prehistoric archeology of the southern Macon region, the horses and hunting of the Upper Paleolithic Age in Solutre and, finally Solutrean Man set in a European context. It has two excellent viewpoints overlooking the Saone valley and the Rock of Solutre.

- Panorama - Solutre-Pouilly
The Plain of the Saone from the rop of the Rock. A path leads to the Crot-du-Charnier and then to the Rock of Solutre (493m-high). The walk offers an extensive view over the Saone valley, the Bresse region, the Jura mountains and, on a fine day, the Alps.

- Rock of Solutre
A magnificent viewpoint and a famous Prehistoric site. A veritable symbol of the southern Macon region, on the fringes of the Beaujolais region and in the heart of the Pouilly-Fuisse vineyards, the Rock of Solutre overlooks the entire Bresse region, from Bourg to Macon. The walk to the top is easy and the panoramic view excellent. This superb limestone escarpment, with its slim silhouette and sphinx-like profile, is one of France's most famous prehistoric sites. This is where a particular kind of stone tool, called after the site, was first discovered; it dates from 18 000 to 15 000 years BC. It is distinctive for the advanced technique known as pressure flaking, which enabled extremely fine bifacial surfaces to be produced called "laurel leaves". The first digs at the foot of the Rock in 1866 also revealed a pile of horse bones which, together with a few bison, auroch, deer and mammoth bones, formed a layer 0.5 to 2m thick over an area of around 4 000sq.m., representing around 100 000 animals. This hunting site was used for 25 000 years by the men of the Upper Paleolithic age (Aurignacians, Gravettians, Solutreans and Magdalenians). Until the later years of his term of office, President Francois Mitterrand used to make the climb of the rock once a year, accompanied by one or two close companions and a horde of journalists.
