Marseille is the oldest city in France; it was founded in 600BC by Greeks from Phocaea. The port of Marseille, which has the oldest Chamber of Commerce in France (founded in 1599), acquires a global reputation. With this expansion of trade, the demography explodes and became the second largest city in France. In 1839 was inaugurated the Arc de Triomphe, which marks the entrance to the city at the level of the current Porte d’Aix. The entrance is located 37 metres below sea level, after a long corridor of 175 metres; a room is situated and decorated with rock carvings. Marseille, open to wind, sun, the Mediterranean, the East Gate, will allow you to enjoy the festive atmosphere that characterises it.
