Montparnasse Tower 56
The 210 metres Montparnasse Tower, also called the “Tour Maine-Montparnasse”, is Paris only skyscraper.
The Tower was built over several metro lines. Its foundation was constructed using 56 reinforced concrete pillars, some of which are 3.5 metres in diameter, extending up to 70 metres below street level.
The Montparnasse Tower is 210 metres tall; its base is in a 50 x 32 metres almond shape, with a triangular indentation at both ends. It weighs 150 000 tonnes, has 6 underground levels and 59 floors, each with an average surface area of 1700 m², for a total surface area of 120 000 m².
In addition to its five freight lifts, the building has 25 lifts, each serving a group of floors. The fastest one connects the ground floor to the 56th floor, at an altitude of 196 metres, in just 38 seconds (or 6 metres per second). The top floors and the terrace are only accessible by stairs.
The Montparnasse Tower has 7,200 windows, with a total of 40 000 m² of facade.

The Tour Montparnasse is opened every day of the year without exception.
