First stop in Avignon to explore the pope city during a walking guided tour of the historic centre. Admire the fortifications, Avignon famous bridge, cathedral, church and gardens or you can prefer to visit the Pope palace on your own.
You will drive to Pont du Gard, one of the most ancient aqueduct of the Roman world located in a beautiful setting. This bridge is listed as world park heritage by UNESCO and was built by the Romans.
You will then reach the Roman city of Orange for a panoramic tour of the main Romans monuments. Photo stop at the roman triumphal arch and visit of the Antique theatre also listed by UNESCO. Orange also marks the northern approach to the cote du Rhone, one of the most important wine regions in the south of France.
Vineyards planted by the Romans were extended and developed by the Avignon popes during the 14th Century who created a new summer palace in Châteauneuf du Pape. You will discover the village of Châteauneuf du Pape and its ancient pope castle to enjoy a panoramic view on the valley. Free time to discover and enjoy a wine tour of Châteauneuf du Pape village in old pope cellars, before walking around the place and stop in several cellars to taste wines. Châteauneuf du Pape wine appellation is made with 13 different varieties of grapes, the main one is Grenache.
