This tour has been designed so that you may discover 2 of the most beautiful regions of South Western France. The Bordeaux wine region first, a world renowned destination for all wine lovers. Not only will you discover some of the most prestigious appellations, but you will also have the opportunity to visit prestigious Classified Growth wineries and taste some of the most famous blends that this area has to offer. Your English speaking wine guide will also be happy to share all his knowledge so that your Bordeaux experience is as enriching as possible. Then move on to the enchanting Dordogne region. Small traditional villages classified among the “most beautiful of France”, breathtaking Medieval castles that line up along the River, refined and exhilarating Art that goes back to the origins of Man and incredible food, all these aspects concur in making the Dordogne so special. Departing from the beautiful town of Sarlat, your daily excursions will lead you to the most significant attractions.

 

Day 1 Arrival in Bordeaux

(Would you wish to enjoy the Sarlat market departure on Tuesdays or Saturdays)

Check in at your centrally located hotel. Overnight.

 

Day 2 Full day Great Cabernets of the Medoc wine tour

Breakfast. Head towards the famous Medoc wine region. During this full day tour you will experience 3 visits and wine tasting sessions in Classified Growth or Cru Bourgeois estates that have been carefully selected for their exceptional setting and quality of wine. During these visits you will learn all there is to know about the history of the estates, the wine making process as well as the techniques used during the wine making. The visits are followed by a wine tasting session. The wineries are usually located in Margaux, Saint Julien, Pauillac or the Saint Estèphe appellations. During your day you will also follow the castle road to admire some of the most famous Chateaux such as Chateau Margaux, Chateau Palmer or Chateau Pichon Longueville. Return to Bordeaux. Overnight.

 

Day 3 Full day Merlot wines of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol wine tour

Breakfast. Today, depart for the Saint Emilion wine region and enjoy a visit and wine tasting in a famous Classified Growth Chateaux of the Pomerol or Saint Emilion appellation. Then, arrive in the village of Saint Emilion and enjoy a guided walking tour with your guide to discover the main monuments of this quaint hilltop village. During your free time for lunch and personal discovery, why not discover the underground monuments of Saint Emilion? In the afternoon experience another visit and wine tasting session in one of our selected Classified Chateaux of Saint Emilion. Return to Bordeaux. Overnight.

 

Day 4 Bordeaux / Sarlat

Breakfast and free morning to enjoy the city of Bordeaux. In the afternoon, pick up and transfer to your hotel in Sarlat la Canéda. Overnight.

 

Day 5 Sarlat Market Tour/Domme village visit/Dordogne boat ride

Breakfast. In the morning, follow a guided walking tour of historic Sarlat, a rich merchant town of the 18th century. Then reach the small village of Domme. Enjoy a walking tour and some free time for personal discovery. Then we drive to the beautifulvillage of La Roque Gageac where you will depart on a boat ride on the River Dordogne. Finally, we head to Beynac where you will admire a truly spectacular view and one of the most impressive medieval castles of the Dordogne. Walking tour in the village and free time for personal discovery. Overnight.

 

Day 6 Lascaux II visit and The Art of the Caves

Breakfast. Some 15,000 years B.C. unknown painters created breath taking cave paintings of which the most extraordinary examples are found in the Dordogne area. During this day enjoy some time in Les Eyzies and follow your guide on a commented visit of the National Prehistory Museum. Continue to Rouffignac Cave that possesses original and authentic engravings dating back to the late Magdalenian. Finally, visit of Lascaux II a perfect reproduction of the original cave. Overnight.

 

Day 7 Rocamadour half day morning tour

Breakfast and depart for the pilgrimage and fortress village of Rocamadour that has attracted visitors for its setting in a gorge above a tributary of the River Dordogne. The village is renowned for its historical monuments and its sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which for centuries has brought pilgrims from every country, among them kings, bishops, and nobles. Here, follow your guide and visit the renowned Notre Dame Chapel, part of an extraordinary 13th-century chapel complex perched on a cliff and one of the most dramatic pilgrimage sites in Europe. Enjoy some free time for personal discovery and return to Sarlat. End of the day is free for you to enjoy the town of Sarlat. Overnight.

 

Day 8 Sarlat
