Cahors was the capital of the ancient Cadurci tribe; later occupied by Visigoths and Moorish invaders, it became a well-known financial centre in the 13th century. Important landmarks include the Valentré Bridge, Saint- Étienne Cathedral and the old medieval city densely packed with timber-fronted houses and galleried mansions built by the city’s medieval merchants.
