TS6 - CORDES SUR CIEL AND CONQUES - 10H - $504.00
Departure from Toulouse
From 08.00 to 18.15
The name of the village is enough to make you want to visit: “Cordes sur Ciel” means “Cordes upon the sky”.
We will drive you to the top of the village (the walk up is quite difficult). You will then walk along the medieval streets to admire the Gothic façades of the 14th century town mansions. From mid-April to mid-October the artisans’ workshops and galleries are open to the public: sculptors, painters, glass-workers, cutlers…
Before we leave the village we will take you to the best spot overlooking it, which only local guides know, and which is only accessible by car. From there you will get a breathtaking view over Cordes.
The little village of Conques is far off the main roads: this enabled it to keep an authenticity which all visitors appreciate. Peace and quiet gives a distinctive atmosphere to the village, especially in the evenings and early mornings. The village is a major stop on the pilgrimage way to Compostella, and you are likely to cross many pilgrims in and around Sainte Foy church.
First we will stop at “Le Bancarel”, a site overlooking Conques, for the best panoramic view over the age-old village.
You will then discover the quaint medieval streets of the village, which was built around Sainte Foy church and its beautiful 12th century tympanum, presenting a Last Judgement scene. Before leaving the village we will take you to another wonderful spot overlooking the village.
For lunch, we advise you to try the local and excellent Aligot (Creamed potato with garlic and cheese).
