Follow your guide on this personalised visit and listen to the tale of those who, in the 12th century, sculpted some of the most admirable and surprising capitals.
A masterpiece of Romanesque art, La Sauve-Majeure Abbey, founded in 1079, is now a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the Ways of St. James. Beloved by pilgrims, this former Benedictine abbey, retains some magnificent remains within its ruined church, as evidenced by the choir's remarkable historiated capitals.
After lunch, head towards the village of Saint-Macaire that lies far from the tourist routes. This medieval village, built on a rocky mount, is a remarkable urban area as it possesses a large number of buildings classified as Historic Monuments. Once arrived in the village, follow your guide on a walking tour. Discover the ramparts and their monolith columns, the remains of the Cloister and the main square of the village surrounded by arches and houses that date back to the 13th - 16th century, the highlight of your tour. After some free time in the village for personal discovery return to Bordeaux.
